Find the Story in the Stone

OUR JOURNEY
The Mpumalanga Heritage Interest Group (MHIG) brings people together to explore, protect, and celebrate the region’s rich cultural landscape—from rock art and early settlements to mining towns, railways, battlefields, and living traditions.
We’re a volunteer-driven, non-profit community that believes heritage is a shared resource and a shared responsibility. Each month we organise guided outings to significant places across the province and publish a newsletter with research notes, site updates, and calls to action. Our work includes documenting sites, supporting conservation efforts, connecting local knowledge keepers with researchers, and creating opportunities for learning and participation.
If you care about history, place, and people, there’s a role for you—member, researcher, guide, donor, or helping hands on site days. Join MHIG to receive outing invitations, contribute your skills, and help ensure Mpumalanga’s stories are preserved and passed on.
