About the event
Speaker: Simon C Green
Join Mpumalanga Heritage for a fascinating presentation by Simon C. Green, one of South Africa's leading authorities on military blockhouses and the author of a detailed study of these Anglo-Boer War structures.
This illustrated talk explores the history, construction and strategic role of blockhouses during the Anglo-Boer War, also known as the South African War (1899–1902), with particular attention to their presence across the Lowveld and surrounding regions.
A former career officer who served nearly thirty years with the British Army before settling in South Africa, Simon draws on years of research and fieldwork to share insights into these often-overlooked structures and their importance in understanding the region's military heritage.
It's a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in history, archaeology, military heritage and the landscapes shaped by the war.
Final venue and event arrangements will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
